There are 3.6 million Australians living with hearing loss and, with an ageing population, this figure is predicted to increase to almost 9 million by 2050
Hearing loss is a known contributor to isolation, depression, anxiety, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and reduced productivity
Having a hearing loss creates barriers to getting and maintaining employment due to reduced capacity to communicate, as well as affecting personal relationships, individual self-esteem and confidence.
Read Our Lips Australia is a self-paced e-learning platform that is dedicated to supporting those with hearing loss and their families, by improving their quality of life through increased communication skills.
Read Our Lips Australia is an initiative by Deafness Forum of Australia, a not-for-profit peak national body that works to ensure the hearing health and well-being of the 3.6 million Australians currently living with hearing loss in Australia.
Read Our Lips Australia is an online learning program designed to improve lipreading ability so users can have more confidence to communicate in different settings, removing their isolation and vulnerability to mental health concerns.
Read Our Lips Australia was created by experienced lipreading instructors and guides users through online modules at their own pace to identify key mouth movements. Identifying and understanding lip movements is a skill that can be improved with regular practice, time and patience.
The Read Our Lips Australia course can help make everyday communication easier, especially at times when there is background noise such as in coffee shops, restaurants, at family gatherings, and in meetings.
The skills you learn in the Read Our Lips Australia course can help you understand what someone is saying in different environments and contexts.

Brisbane:

Active Communication Education Program aims to help adults with hearing loss to become more effective communicators and to provide them with strategies to cope better in everyday life. It is a rehabilitation option for adults with hearing loss who might not want to wear hearing aids all the time or who want more than hearing aids alone can provide.

Canberra:

Volunteer teachers run sessions in Hearing Loss Management, including lipreading. Classes are suitable for people with all types of hearing loss, from mild to profound. Sessions are relaxed and friendly. Classes are currently being held on Zoom or privately in office by arrangement.
